With the end of the “Double 11” promotion campaign, China’s e-commerce logistics index experienced a seasonal decline in December 2024, consistent with expectations. Looking at the whole year, the average value of China’s e-commerce logistics index in 2024 was 113.7 points, an increase of 3.6 points compared to 2023, achieving a new high in the average value of the index in nearly 7 years.
According to data released by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing on the 7th, the e-commerce logistics index in China was 112.7 points in December 2024, a decrease of 2.8 points from the previous month. In the sub indices, the inventory turnover index and logistics timeliness index have increased, while the total business volume index, rural business volume index, fulfillment rate index, personnel index, satisfaction rate index, actual load rate index, and cost index have decreased.
From the demand side, December 2024 coincides with the “Double Festival” of Christmas and New Year’s Day, and the online consumer market presents a strong sense of festive ceremony in various aspects such as clothing, food, housing, and transportation. At the same time, the search volume for ice and snow themed tourism products has significantly increased. From the supply side, some sub indices have declined due to fluctuations in demand.
According to analysis, the Chinese e-commerce logistics index achieved a “nine rise and three decline” in the 12 months of 2024, and set a new monthly high in nearly 7 years in November. In the sub indices, the annual average of the fulfillment rate index, personnel index, satisfaction rate, and actual load rate index also reached a new high since 2018, indicating that the scale of China’s e-commerce logistics market continues to expand, supply capacity and service level have significantly improved, and market activity has significantly increased.
Looking ahead to 2025, analysis suggests that the national policy to promote consumption will not decrease, and demand scenarios for e-commerce logistics such as instant e-commerce and cross-border e-commerce will continue to emerge. The Chinese e-commerce logistics index will continue to steadily rise.
