China calls for the full and accurate implementation of the Paris Agreement

China News Service, Beijing, September 17 – The Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China reported on the 17th that the Group of Twenty (G20) Environment Ministers Meeting was held on the 16th to discuss in depth land degradation, biodiversity loss and other environmental issues facing the world. China emphasizes that all countries should resolutely defend multilateralism, fully and accurately understand and implement the Paris Agreement, and jointly respond to environmental and climate challenges.

   Zhao Yingmin, Vice Minister of China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment, led a Chinese delegation composed of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Natural Resources, Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and National Forestry and Grass Administration to attend the meeting and speak.

The Chinese side pointed out that the Chinese government has been committed to the protection of terrestrial and marine ecosystems for a long time. It has promulgated and implemented several laws and regulations such as sand control and coral reef ecosystem protection, established marine nature reserves, and insisted on comprehensive management and systematic protection of mountains, waters, forests, fields, lakes, and sand. Actively implement international environmental conventions such as the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the Convention on Biological Diversity.

China emphasizes that environmental issues such as land degradation and loss of marine biodiversity are closely related to climate change. All countries should resolutely defend multilateralism, fully and accurately understand and implement the Paris Agreement, and adhere to principles and systems such as “common but differentiated responsibilities”. Arrangements to jointly respond to environmental and climate challenges. China expects that the G20 Environment Ministers’ Meeting can build a pragmatic cooperation platform for countries to implement their commitments, promote exchanges and mutual learning of policies and measures, and make effective contributions to the global response to climate change and the realization of sustainable development goals.

  The conference conducted in-depth discussions on the implementation of climate commitments at the Osaka Summit, strengthening and accelerating efforts to achieve climate goals, implementing the sustainable development agenda, promoting green economic recovery, promoting research and development of coral reef protection, reducing land degradation and strengthening terrestrial habitat protection.

   The G20 Environment Ministers Meeting was chaired by the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia, the rotating chairman of the G20. The meeting was held in video format. Representatives from G20 members, relevant international organizations and special guest countries attended the meeting.
